Cupcakes and Sprinkles

First post of the new school year!  My first assignment in digital illustration was a series of spot illustrations.  I decided to focus on my baking obsession: cupcakes.  My teacher asked me how many cupcakes I thought I made this summer and I would say it was definitely over 100.
The best part about this was I had to shoot reference to see how the bite marks would look on the icing.  Not that I need an excuse to eat a cupcake!

Werther's Original Hard Candies

Despite the fact that my friends make fun of me for being an "old lady" I really love Werther's candies.  I had to do a watercolor piece with food as the subject and I thought that Werther's would be a fun subject.  I had a hard time with the wrapper until my teacher pointed out that I should try using liquid friskit as covering to create the reflective wrapper.

The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha

One of the assignments in my Illustration Media class was to do a portrait of an old movie star or musician.  My teacher is a big believer in research, and that sometimes people rely too much on the internet, so we also had to find the reference from a book.  I ended up looking in a book of Orson Welles' movie collection and found a really great photo of Fransisco Reiguera as Don Quixote.

Oil rub; full value pencil rendering, spray fixed, with oil paint rubbed over it, then Prisma colored pencils over that.
I am I, Don Quixote,
The Lord of la Mancha,
My destiny calls and I go,
And the wild winds of fortune
Will carry me onward,
Oh whithersoever they blow!

The Glass is Half Full of Alcohol

My final project in Graphic Design was a poster assignment.  We had to work off of the phrase "the glass is half full."  I was inspired by Louise Fili, specifically the color palette in her book Euro Deco: Graphic Design Between the Wars.  The font is Seaside Resort which I fount at fontspace.com tagged under the "Art Deco" section.  I had to carefully tread the line between staying positive and being an alcohol advertisement, but I think I managed.

Donald Trump is running for president

Jerry Seinfeld and Donald Trump have gotten into a fued which led to this gem of a quote from Seinfeld:

"I love Donald Trump, all comedians love Donald Trump. If God gave comedians the power to invent people, the first person we would invent is Donald Trump… God's gift to comedy."

I think Donald Trump's hair is God's gift to anyone who enjoys drawing with a sense of humor, so when my illustration teacher assigned an editorial assignment I decided I wanted to find an article about Donald Trump wanting to be the GOP candidate for the 2012 presidential election.  This is the final product:

Would You Eat Grilled Cheese Flavored Gum?

In my Intro to Graphic Design class we have to create the package design for a product.  We could either rebrand a product or create our own, so I decided to create my own product.  Thus YUM GUM was born!  It is a meal flavored gum in five different flavors: hamburger, hotdog, fried chicken, pizza and grilled cheese.  I am still in progress but here is a little sample of my package design for grilled cheese flavor.
Yummy...
